New year, new art. January sees ECC opening up Colossians for a quick whip through one of Paul’s letters. This letter has a few key themes but one that really jumped out at me was forgiveness. This time of year if great for focusing the mind, new beginnings, forgiving what had come before. With that in mind the passage ‘bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.‘ Col 3:13 seems especially pertinent.
Mixed with this theme is the notion of putting down roots. Paul’s writings equally address the bad practices that are infiltrating the early church and correcting them with proper foundation principles. These are represented by the tree roots which are intertwined with the cross.
