For this year’s summer series ECC have decided to do the Psalms. For this piece I took some time to think about the core of what the Psalms are. Obviously it’s difficult to encapsulate all of the themes that run through them in detail, but to zoom out and get an overall sense of them is definitely possible. In this design I picked up on the idea that in their simplest form, the psalms are simply prayers to God. They come in all different forms throughout the book, but all can be boiled down to prayer. So, here is David, plucking his harp whilst the heavenly host listen intently.
In most of my previous work the design has been quite dark and intense, this one is purposefully not. I guess brooding intensity needs a little bright airiness every now and again!
